Job Summary
Implement an instructional program under the supervision of the Building Administrator while adhering to Stafford County School Board Policies. Provide full classroom support by maintaining organized instruction based on lesson plans, preserving routine, and managing student behavior with fair and consistent methods. Adapt instructional presentation to student needs, develop supplemental materials, and assume responsibility for care of classroom equipment and facilities to ensure a safe environment. Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning, promote positive student interaction, and serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the public. Engage in ongoing professional development and respond promptly to written or oral requests for information. Maintain accurate attendance records and comply with all district policies, including confidentiality guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Valid teaching license preferred
- At least 19 years of age
- In their second year of college
- All high school substitutes must be at least 21 years of age or in their senior year of college
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods
- Ability to move the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively
- Ability to move with force on the back or lower body repetitively
- Ability to feel, grasp, or hold objects by hand
- Ability to identify colors visually
- Ability to identify objects in low light or distant conditions
- Ability to communicate via spoken language
- Ability to communicate via written language
- Ability to perceive sounds
- Ability to make decisions using logic and rational thinking
- Ability to perform other related duties as required/assigned
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Knowledge of School and School Board policies and regulations and guidelines provided in the Substitute Teacher's Onboarding, Orientation, and additional required trainings
- Classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situations
- Use of written, verbal, or other forms of effective communication
- Thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage
- Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals
- Ability to organize and perform work independently
- Ability to meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects
- Ability to show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work
