Job Summary
Conduct general cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance activities within school buildings, offices, and district facilities. Perform upkeep of outside grounds, property, and equipment while ensuring security is observed. Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, order necessary stock, and operate machinery such as lawnmowers, blowers, and buffers. Inspect facilities for special maintenance needs, report problems to administration, and assist maintenance personnel. Sweep, mop, wax floors, vacuum, clean carpets and restrooms, and clear tables. Work with co-workers, supervisors, students, teachers, and the public. Handle moderately heavy physical exertion and occasional exposure to environmental conditions.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- One to two years of demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the job duties
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform manual work requiring some physical strength and agility
- Ability to work well with supervisor, co-workers and the general public
- Ability to use and care for a variety of cleaning and landscaping agents, materials and equipment
- Skill in performing general maintenance incidental to regular duties and/or area of assignment
- Knowledge of custodial operations and general maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the organization as they pertain to the specific duties of the job
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment and supplies used within grounds and building maintenance, and cleaning activities
- Knowledge of the occupational and safety precautions of the trade
- Knowledge of the proper and safe use of equipment, tools and materials necessary for assignment completion
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, materials and supplies, and general maintenance repairs
- Knowledge of effective cleaning methods and safe handling and use of related equipment, supplies, agents, etc.
- Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds

- Prior custodial and general maintenance experience
