Job Summary
Conduct general cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance activities within school buildings, offices, and outside grounds. Operate equipment such as buffers, vacuums, lawnmowers, and blowers while sweeping, mopping, waxing floors, and clearing debris from parking lots. Maintain and order cleaning supplies, inspect facilities for maintenance needs, and report problems to administration. Interact with co-workers, supervisors, students, teachers, and the general public while performing related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- One to two years of demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the job duties
- Ability to read and write
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to perform manual work requiring some physical strength and agility
- Knowledge of custodial operations and general maintenance procedures
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the organization as they pertain to the specific duties of the job
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment and supplies used within grounds and building maintenance, and cleaning activities
- Knowledge of the occupational and safety precautions of the trade
- Knowledge of the proper and safe use of equipment, tools and materials necessary for assignment completion
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, materials and supplies, and general maintenance repairs
- Knowledge of effective cleaning methods and safe handling and use of related equipment, supplies, agents, etc.
- Ability to work well with supervisor, co-workers and the general public
- Ability to use and care for a variety of cleaning and landscaping agents, materials and equipment
- Skill in performing general maintenance incidental to regular duties and/or area of assignment
- Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Prior custodial and general maintenance experience
