Job Summary

Teach six credits per semester in selected lower-level theater, performance, or related courses while directing one or more productions annually, including the fall play and spring musical. Provide artistic leadership by overseeing auditions, casting, rehearsals, and student performance development, collaborating with visiting artists, guest directors, and technical staff. Mentor undergraduate students in vocal performance and contribute to course schedule development alongside Fine Arts leadership. Maintain a flexible schedule accommodating rehearsals, performances, and events within the School of Fine Arts and Humanities.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in theater, theater performance, directing, acting, musical theater, drama, or a closely related field
  • Collegiate teaching experience
  • Experience directing theater productions
  • Experience working with undergraduate students in instructional, rehearsal, or performance settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater rehearsal processes, auditions, casting, production preparation, and performance practice
  • Ability to direct theater productions and support student performance development
  • Ability to teach lower-level courses in theater, performance, acting, directing, musical theater, or related areas
  • Ability to work effectively with undergraduate students with varied levels of preparation and experience
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with visiting artists, guest directors, technical staff, music directors, choreographers, and Fine Arts leadership
  • Ability to support artistic planning while working within established production, budgetary, and facility structures
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching, mentorship, artistic development, and performance preparation
  • Ability to assess courses and student learning outcomes as required by the Institution
  • Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and through virtual platforms
  • Ability to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Ability to participate in rehearsals, auditions, performances, and related events as needed
  • Ability to move within rehearsal and performance spaces as required for directing and production activity

Desired Qualifications

  • MFA or other relevant terminal degree
  • Experience directing or supporting musical theater productions
  • Experience with production planning, season planning, or collaborative performing arts programming
  • Experience advising or mentoring undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a director, performer, theater artist, or related creative professional
