Part-Time Contract Staff Accountant

Job Summary
Prepare and post daily, weekly, and monthly journal entries while performing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities. Reconcile general ledger, bank, and balance sheet accounts, investigate discrepancies, and maintain accurate financial records. Assist with preparing monthly financial statements, management reports, and regulatory filings such as the 990. Process payroll, fixed asset transactions, and support accounts payable and receivable functions. Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies. Work 20–25 hours per week in a hybrid schedule in Indianapolis, IN. This three-month contract offers graduate students hands-on nonprofit accounting experience with potential for full-time conversion.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience with ERP or accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, QuickBooks)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Desired Qualifications
- Nonprofit fund accounting experience preferred
- Experience with financial grant accounting
- Experience with financial reporting and audits
