Job Summary
Cooks meals according to established recipes and menus, assisting the Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet residents' nutritional needs and food preferences. Prepares nutritious, tasty, and professionally presented meals while setting up the kitchen daily and prepping for the next day. Cleans dishes, floors, walls, and equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines, and ensures proper temperatures in steam tables, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers. Maintains an organized storeroom and coolers, takes resident orders, and resets dining rooms between mealtimes. Works independently in a fast-paced restaurant-style kitchen, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and adheres to strict scheduled time frames. Requires health certification and knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic and low-fat options.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Appropriate health certification as required by local state and federal health departments
- Must possess education that provides skills to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to read and follow directions and recipes
- Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload as emergencies arise
- Must show compassion and genuinely care for the elderly
- Must be knowledgeable of the location of the MSDS sheets on hazardous materials and able to understand the guidelines
Desired Qualifications
