Job Summary
Provide compassionate nursing care and perform medical procedures including phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthetic monitoring, and wound care for patients with acute and chronic skin conditions. Assist veterinarians in surgery, apply bandages and splints, and administer medications as prescribed. Deliver excellent client service by communicating findings clearly, advising pet owners on proper care, and maintaining positive relations in the waiting area. Perform housekeeping and maintenance duties while recognizing potential patient issues and recording all findings accurately. Capable of being cross-trained for front office receptionist duties involving telephone and computer operations.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience or training/ education in a veterinary facility
- Must be friendly, outgoing, 'people oriented'
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be capable of being cross-trained for front office receptionist duties
- Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques, treatments, and accept change
- Phlebotomy
- IV catheter placement
- Preparing and restraining animals during procedures
- Anesthetic induction
- Anesthetic monitoring
- Assisting in surgery
- Suture cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues
- Apply bandages and/or splints
- Wound care
- Ability to use a stethoscope and otoscope
- Advising pet owners on proper care, etc.
- College or college-equivalent education as required in becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician if applying to be a CVT
- Dependable attendance
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
- Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions
- The ability to walk, bend, stand, squat, or reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day
