Job Summary
Part-time school bus driver responsible for transporting students and teachers on field trips and athletics. Duties include driving a school transportation vehicle on prescribed routes and schedules, picking up and dropping off students, maintaining order and discipline according to school policy, conducting daily vehicle safety and operational inspections, reporting needed repairs, performing safety drills, completing mileage and passenger-count reports, attending safety and training meetings, and complying with NC Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code as they apply to transporting school children. Requires valid NC CDL with P endorsement, safe driving record, knowledge of relevant codes, basic first-aid knowledge, ability to read/write and follow instructions, establish student conduct, operate a two-way radio, and pass background checks, drug screen, and DOT health exam. Prior bus driving experience (1+ year; 2+ years preferred) is noted as desirable. Proficiency with Google Workspace and willingness to participate in ongoing driver training is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Possession of a valid and appropriate NC Driver's License (CDL with P endorsement)
- Safe driving record
- Knowledge of the NC Motor Vehicle Code as applied to transporting school children
- Knowledge of basic first-aid practices
- Knowledge of safe driving practices
- Ability to read and write at a functional level
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain student conduct on school vehicle
- Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently
- Ability to exercise good judgment and caution while driving
- Ability to maintain valid certification as school bus driver per state regulations
- Ability to meet physical requirements to perform duties
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
- Clean background check and drug screen required
- DOT Health exam required
- Minimum one year of bus driving experience; two or more years preferred
