Job Summary

Athletic Trainer role at Norfolk Public Schools (Norfolk, VA) in a part-time, temporary capacity. Responsible for emergency care and basic first aid, recording injuries on treatment charts, writing injury reports, determining injury status in coordination with clinicians and coaches, supervising student athletic trainers, inventory and budgeting for athletic training supplies, maintaining the clinic and equipment, and teaching one sports medicine class during the academic year. Requires a Bachelor's degree, Virginia teaching license or eligible provisional license, Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers certification, Virginia licensure, and CPR/AED certification, with duties including following physician orders, implementing the athletic emergency plan, and ensuring adherence to school policies and concussion/bloodborne pathogen guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Virginia Teaching License or Eligible for Provisional License
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Virginia Board of Medicine
  • Experience as a certified/licensed Athletic Trainer
  • CPR/AED Certified (Instructor Preferred)
  • Tuberculin Skin Test certifying that the individual is free of contagious tuberculosis
  • Be responsible to follow the physician’s orders when treating athletic injuries
