Job Summary
Conduct daily special education support for Pre-12 students, including supervising academic activities, assisting with personal hygiene and self-help tasks, and facilitating transitional skills. Prepare classroom materials, check mobility equipment for safety, and monitor students during field trips, assemblies, and lunch. Scribe and adapt instruction, read orally to students, and assist with test preparation and small group instruction. Document student performance, progress, and behavior while maintaining strict confidentiality and implementing positive discipline strategies. Confer with teachers, specialists, and parents to support IEP goals and daily communication between home and school.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Meet ESEA Para-professional Qualifications (72 Quarter Credits from an accredited college/university or passing the ETS Test)
- Minimum computer/technology skills
- Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Clarkston School District standards
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to give and receive written and spoken instructions
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to speak to small groups
- Ability to complete reports and correspondence
- Ability to apply general guidelines to a wide variety of situations with several variables
- Think quickly to address situations
- Attention to detail is essential
