Job Summary

Lead and participate in performing turf maintenance including mowing, fertilizing, sod installation, and irrigation. Manage general ground maintenance tasks such as tree cutting, mulching, and playground installation while overseeing field preparation for sports venues. Direct basic repair and construction work on public buildings and grounds, including painting, carpentry, and lighting repairs. Assist with special event set-up and removal, train new workers on safe equipment operation, and maintain tools and vehicles. Ensure all work adheres to OSHA and City Safety Standards. Schedule includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Starting pay is $23.61 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Formal Education includes the completion of a High School Diploma or GED
  • At least two years' experience in a lead role supervising a crew in the absence of the supervisor
  • At least two years' experience operating tractors, various mowers, and power equipment
  • Must have possession of valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina
  • Must have a North Carolina Pesticide License or be able to obtain the NC Pesticide License within one year of hire date
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and more with assistance
  • Must have good knowledge of safety rules and regulations associated with the trade
  • Must be able to train and lead others in their work assignments
  • Must have general knowledge and experience in use of grounds maintenance equipment and supplies
  • Must have general knowledge of municipal repair and maintenance practices
  • Must have ability to operate trucks and small construction and repair equipment
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal work orders and prepare reports
  • Candidates selected for employment must undergo a drug screening
  • Candidates selected for employment must undergo a background screening
  • Candidates selected for employment in a position that requires working with children must be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal history record check
  • Certain positions are considered so critical to the health and safety of others that a candidate cannot be placed in any such position without passing a pre-placement physical exam
