Job Summary
Parks Horticulture/Public Works Operator responsible for maintaining parks, open spaces, trails, sports fields, splash pads, facilities and related grounds, plus winter maintenance with Public Works. Duties include operation, maintenance and inspections of amenities, landscaping and horticultural design and plantings, irrigation system management, equipment operation, snow/ice removal, and general labor across Parks and Public Works divisions. Requires Grade 12, 1 year municipal parks/public works experience, chainsaw operation, First Aid/CPR/AED, valid G license, and ability to work long hours; assets: Playground Inspection and Certified Pool Operator; compensation hourly with comprehensive benefits. The role balances time between Parks (roughly seven months) and Public Works winter operations (about five months). Hiring range CAD 32.34–CAD 37.84 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 secondary school education or equivalent
- One (1) year experience working in a municipal parks and public works environment
- Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance course
- Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
- Playground Inspection and Certified Pool Operator certifications are considered assets
- Mechanical skills including the ability to operate various parks and public works equipment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Xplor Recreation
- Good oral and written communication skills, able to deal with customers and the public in a cordial manner
- Must be in good physical condition, and able to work long hours
