Job Summary

Parking Enforcement Officer I enforces parking regulations per Boulder Revised Code, conducts patrols on foot or in a city vehicle, issues citations, warnings, and courtesy notices, and may boot or impound vehicles. The role responds to non-emergency calls, investigates alleged code violations, conducts follow-up inspections, assists with ticketing/towing at events, coordinates with city and county departments, compiles evidence and writes reports, testifies in court, and participates in training and disaster support for traffic control. The position requires strong communication with the public and city staff, attention to safety procedures, ability to work irregular hours, and proficiency with enforcement technology and Microsoft Office. Preferred qualifications include bilingual English/Spanish, familiarity with enforcement software, and various certifications and degrees related to criminal justice or public safety, with a high school diploma or GED as a minimum education and a City of Boulder Limited Commission Parking Enforcement Officer status achievable.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of post-secondary education in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public administration; or one (1) year of experience in security, law/code enforcement.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record with the ability to drive in all weather conditions.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information to obtain and maintain CJIS Certification, including criminal conviction history.
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability – Works effectively on a team and individually to perform work in an accurate and efficient manner and following standard procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate detail oriented experience – Has attention to detail, understands and applies Boulder Revised Code, and is organized in field and office work.
  • Ability to receive candid feedback and participate in open dialogue with supervisor and peers regarding team dynamics and work plan progress.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, an adjusted schedule, evenings, weekends, holidays, emergencies and/or snow shifts as required.
  • Knowledge that demonstrates Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Skills exhibiting a flexible, creative and courageous attitude.
  • Skills in conflict management/resolution – Anticipates potential areas of conflict and proactively works to address and deescalate.
  • Able to clearly communicate technical information to a variety of audiences in both written and verbal form.
  • Able to gracefully set boundaries.
