Job Summary
Conduct patrol, security, and law enforcement services in Cameron County Parks and public beaches to protect life, property, and natural resources. Enforce federal, state, and local laws while investigating motor vehicle accidents, protecting crime scenes, and assisting with crime prevention. Operate emergency vehicles, detain and transport violators, and testify in court as required. Manage confiscated property and respond to emergency crises including hurricanes and floods. Maintain order and enforce Commissioners Court orders within the county parks system.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Acceptable working knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Traffic Code, and Family Law
- Acceptable grammar skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English language
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions
- Acceptable personal computer, typewriter, and basic office equipment operation skills
- Ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
- Working knowledge of laws pertaining to civil procedures
- Skilled in the use of firearms and security devices
- Knowledgeable in the law and policies pertaining to peace officer's use of force and physical restraints
- Basic Peace Officer Certification from Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Office Standards and Education
- Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Acceptable driving record
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Number
- Driver's license
- Ability to handle, sit, walk, stand, bend, reach, and twist to perform essential job functions
- Ability to lift/carry an average size person
- Ability to control emotions when confronted with disturbing crime scenes or any situation that requires police attention
- Ability to use good judgment at all times
- Ability to develop unique solutions for completing work assignments within the bounds of the law and officially adopted policies and procedures
- Ability to submit to a Civil Service Exam
