Job Summary
The Parent Partner provides trauma-informed, family-guided peer support to parents of youth receiving services in a psychiatric residential treatment program, collaborating with families, treatment teams, and service providers to increase family involvement. Primary responsibilities include engaging families at program entry and throughout treatment, partnering with treatment teams to develop family-centered goals, developing community resources, advocating for youth and families across care teams and systems (schools, courts, community providers), assisting with housing/financial/food resources, participating in meetings to voice family needs, coaching families to advocate for themselves, coordinating family education and support groups, serving as liaison between families and services, responding to family needs with timely solutions, and maintaining accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have prior experience as the primary parent or caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges
- Must have experience with children’s mental health systems such as DHS, DOC, social services, probation, or the Department of Mental Health
- Successful completion of a background check
- Currently have or be willing to complete the Department of Human Services-approved Certified Family Peer Specialist Training and certificate exam
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities
- Open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities
- Completion of a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention exam and training
