Job Summary
The Parent Advocate provides support for parents with children in foster care, helping them navigate the foster care system and maintain family connections. Responsibilities include building relationships with parents, attending Family Team Conferences, collaborating with service providers, and participating in parent training. The role requires effective communication with various stakeholders, assistance with the Public Assistance process, and thorough documentation of interactions. Candidates should have experience with the child welfare system as a parent, a high school diploma (associates degree preferred), excellent communication skills, and a valid NYS Driver License.
Required Qualifications
- Previous life experience being impacted by the child welfare system as a parent (including child placement in foster care or court-ordered supervision)
- High School Diploma
- Valid NYS Driver License
- Approved background clearances and fingerprinting
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Basic computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual abilities are strongly encouraged
- Knowledge of local welfare services a plus
