Job Summary
Paraprofessional at the Transitions Center provides instructional and non-instructional support to students with disabilities under the direction of a certified teacher. Responsibilities include delivering instruction at school and community locations, assisting with feeding, toileting, health care, and related medical services; teaching basic to intermediate vocational skills to help students obtain employment; collecting instructional data; implementing and monitoring behavior plans; aiding in execution of lesson plans; delivering non-instructional services such as student mobility, health and safety, loading/unloading buses, monitoring lunchroom, and other duties. Willingness to receive additional training and to work in a 2-person team for lifting students up to 75 lbs and securing wheelchairs on buses; maintain confidentiality; support a positive image of the organization; travel with students as needed on school-provided transportation; in-person collaboration with staff where required.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills
- Experience working with students, students with disabilities, or as a trainer is preferred
- Must be willing to perform personal care for students as needed
- Must be able to work effectively with Administration, co-workers, students, and parents
- Must have good oral/written communication, comprehension, and math skills
- Must have a good attendance history
- Must have a valid driver’s license with less than 3 points to be able to drive District vehicles
