Job Summary
Provide one-on-one academic support to exceptional education students, including those with severe and profound intellectual disabilities, in elementary settings. Conduct small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans, assist with instructional material preparation, and perform special duties such as personal hygiene assistance or specialized behavior management. Assist with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision including bus loading and unloading. Requires an associate's degree, two years of college coursework, or a GACE Paraprofessional Assessment pass. This grade 16, 190-day position starts at step 6 and pays for experience up to step 8. Bilingual or bicultural experience is required for certain positions.
Required Qualifications
- Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Paraprofessional experience serving school age children
- Bilingual or bicultural experience
- Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License
