Job Summary
Provide academic support to exceptional education students, including those with moderate intellectual disabilities, at the elementary level. Conduct small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assist with material preparation, grading, and routine record keeping while performing special duties such as toileting assistance and behavior management. Support the assigned classroom teacher in resource, self-contained, and regular classroom settings. This grade 16, 190-day position involves light duty with moderate lifting capabilities and offers pay progression up to step 8 based on experience.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
Desired Qualifications
- Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations
- First aid
- Ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed
- Behavior management
