Job Summary
Paraprofessional – Special Education works under a Building Administrator and teacher direction to support instructional objectives by assisting individual students or small groups. Responsibilities include administering, scoring, and recording tests; reinforcing learning materials; guiding independent study; assisting with supervision during drills and field trips; reading to students and helping in the library; supporting daily living and self-help skills; assisting teachers with strategizing for student needs; operating instructional equipment; maintaining classroom materials and documentation; supporting social and emotional needs of students; serving as a primary contact for substitute teachers; engaging in professional development and upholding district policies; and contributing to a collaborative school environment with strong communication, organization, and confidentiality. Must meet the district’s education/experience requirements (high school diploma or GED and either associate’s degree/60 credits or ParaPro exam) and participate in ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associate's degree, at least 60 semester credit hours, or passing ParaPro exam
- Knowledge of basic curriculum expectations
- Basic reading and computation skills
- Ability to work under direction of teachers and cooperate in a team
- Experience in supporting student learning and classroom activities
