Job Summary
Provide 1:1 and/or small group assistance in the self-contained or other specialized programs offered through special services to support students' access to regular and special education programs and academics. Implement specialized and/or adaptive procedures and curriculum materials as instructed by the teacher; prepare and utilize appropriate materials; implement IEPs; assist with physical needs and safety (including first aid and potential restraint as needed); collect and record student data and report progress; support behavioral plans; adapt classroom materials and facilitate independent working, social, and self-help skills; work 6.75 hours daily, Monday through Friday within a school setting at Skyridge Middle School. Maintain records, communication with teachers, and ensure student safety and wellbeing in collaboration with the classroom and special services staff.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent AND 72 quarter/48 semester credits OR AA/AS degree OR pass the state exam for paraprofessionals
- Instructional paraprofessionals, as defined by the state per WAC 179-01-020, are required to complete the Fundamental Course of Study and General Certificate per the state guidelines
- Experience working with special needs students in an educational setting
- Demonstrated academic proficiency comparable to assigned grade and subject areas
- Basic knowledge of sign language preferred
- Basic computer skills to include MS Office software and database entry
- Acquire and maintain first aid/CPR certification
- Acquire and maintain training in the appropriate use of physical restraints
