Job Summary
Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, supervise students in classrooms and on field trips, and tutor individuals or small groups to reinforce learning concepts. Enforce administration policies, coordinate instructional efforts with teachers, and monitor student use of equipment to prevent injuries. Implement therapeutic activities including OT, PT, and Speech support, administer medication after training, and provide personal care such as lifting, feeding, and catheterization. Operate special education buses safely, escort students to elective classes, and attend extracurricular events as assigned. Report suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse to authorities. Work a 181-day contract with hours typically 7:30-4:00 daily.
Required Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Must meet all state and federal requirements for the position
- Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members
- Successful completion of pre-employment background checks
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school)
- A passing score on the Paraprofessional Proficiency Assessment
- Previous experience working with children or adults with disabilities
