Job Summary
Conduct small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assist with preparation of instructional materials, including copying, bulletin board construction, and grading. Perform special duties for unique student needs, such as physical lifting, toileting assistance, and behavior management. Types and process correspondence, reports, and catalog cards while operating the computerized circulation system. Operate the media center and supervise students in the absence of the media specialist. Assist with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision including bus loading and unloading. This grade 16, 190-day position starts at step 6 and pays for experience up to step 8. Bilingual or bicultural experience is required for certain positions.
Required Qualifications
- Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
- Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Paraprofessional experience serving school age children
- Bilingual or bicultural experience
- Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License
- Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations
- Ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed
- Behavior management skills
