Job Summary

Provide academic support to exceptional education students, including those on the autism spectrum, in elementary resource, self-contained, and regular classroom settings. Conduct small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assist with material preparation, grading, and routine record keeping while supporting the assigned classroom teacher. Perform special duties as required for specific student populations, including physical assistance, hygiene support, and behavior management techniques. This grade 16, 190-day position offers experience-based pay progression up to step 8.

Required Qualifications

  • Hold an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
  • Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution
  • Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Paraprofessional experience serving school age children
  • Bilingual or bicultural experience
  • Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License

Desired Qualifications

  • Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations
  • First aid
  • Ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed
  • Behavior management
