Job Summary
Assist special education and general education teachers with classroom instruction, individualized accommodations, and daily living skills for students with disabilities. Monitor student behavior, facilitate positive interventions, and lead small group activities under teacher direction. Provide physical care including feeding, toileting, and mobility support while maintaining confidential student records and IEP data. Escort students to and from classes and transportation buses as needed. Support classroom coverage when teachers are unavailable and assist with lunchroom and recess duties. Work a seven-hour daily schedule for nine months during the school year.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Possess the ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information
- Ability to reason and make appropriate decisions in high-stress situations
- Good vision and hearing capabilities
- Ability to lift over 20 lbs
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs
- Ability to reach, stand, walk, climb, sit, grasp, and use repetitive movements
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children
- Minimum of sixty (60) college hours
- Ability to obtain a substitute teacher certification
- Competence in the duties to be performed
