Job Summary
Assist the teacher with instruction responsibilities, implementing daily routines including breakfast, small groups, and outdoor play. Interact with and support children throughout the day while participating in weekly curriculum planning and classroom management. Prepare materials for activities, maintain a safe and clean learning environment, and assist with registration and screening of applicants. Provide instructional leadership when working with a substitute teacher and keep accurate records of student progress. Work in a school setting adhering to program guidelines and maintain CPR certification.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing
- Must have ability to accurately give and receive information
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, school personnel, and prekindergarten program personnel
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to ten (10) pounds
- Must be able to operate classroom equipment
- Must have sufficient mobility to move to various locations on the school site
- Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education activities that support the teacher's plans
- Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- Must keep accurate, up-to-date records and give precise instructions
- Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations and pre-kindergarten program guidelines
- Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques
- Must be able to work compatibly with students, teachers, school personnel, parents, and pre-kindergarten program personnel
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement
- An Associate Degree OR Forty-eight (48) hours of approved colleges courses OR Pass ParaPro Praxis and have high school diploma and/or equivalency
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older
- Satisfactory performance in interview
- Must maintain CPR certification
