Job Summary
Monitor students and assist teachers with lesson completion, project goals, and daily scheduling. Participate in goal writing reviews, provide creative input for lessons, and address individual, small group, or whole-class needs. Implement discipline procedures, apply incentives for positive behavior, and teach to multiple learning styles. Grade papers, track progress, and maintain organized records. Attend field trips, family dinners, and parent conferences; proctor testing and assist with arrival, passing time, and dismissal. Act as a substitute teacher when qualified. Join weekly team meetings, in-services, and retreats covering crisis intervention and de-escalation. Meet attendance and timeliness expectations while communicating with outside agencies as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or obtain an Associate's Degree (or higher)
- Experience working with youth and/or families
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to do simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to apply verbal de-escalation skills as part of crisis intervention
- Ability to work as a part of a team
- Knowledge of Google and/or Microsoft applications and/or willingness to learn needed computer skills specific to this position
- Must pass criminal history records search, physical and drug screen, if required
- Must be able to walk, and move about within the school
- Must be able to sit
- Must be able to use hands to handle or feel
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to talk or hear
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
