Job Summary

Adapt classroom work under direction to reinforce lesson plans and provide appropriate intervention for students. Administer and proctor tests and evaluations to monitor progress while preparing teaching materials and managing record-keeping functions. Monitor individual students in various settings to ensure a safe learning environment and implement behavior plans to meet IEP goals. Confers with teachers to evaluate student progress and assists other school personnel as needed. Report incidents to maintain safety and adhere to district policies. Participate in meetings and workshops to gather information and attend assigned training.

Required Qualifications

  • Fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check
  • High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  • Completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
  • Obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
  • Satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Paraprofessional Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
  • Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
  • Attend Annual Health Services Training
  • Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
  • Knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and development of effective lesson plans; lead small groups and learn through play
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
