Job Summary
Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans while administering tests and evaluations to monitor student progress. Confers with teachers to assist in evaluating student progress and implements individual learning and behavior plans to meet social, behavioral, and health care objectives. Monitor individual students in various settings including classrooms, libraries, playgrounds, and during field trips to ensure a safe and positive learning environment. Prepare teaching materials, perform record-keeping and clerical functions, and organize reports to document student progress and support lesson implementation. Provide appropriate classroom intervention through booster groups and small-group instruction to improve student learning and academic success.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
- Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
- Knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and development of effective lesson plans; lead small groups and learn through play
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
