Job Summary
Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher to reinforce lesson plans and provide appropriate interventions for students. Administer tests and evaluations, proctor assessments, and monitor individual students across various settings to ensure a safe learning environment. Confers with teachers to evaluate student progress, implement behavior plans, and prepare teaching materials while performing record-keeping and clerical functions. Assist other school personnel as needed and report incidents to maintain safety and adhere to district policies. Participate in meetings and workshops as assigned to convey information and gather data required for effective work unit functioning.
Required Qualifications
- Fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check
- High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
- Completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
- Obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
- Satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Paraprofessional Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
- Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copier, scanner, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
- Knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and development of effective lesson plans; lead small groups and learn through play
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
