Job Summary
Paraprofessional in Heard County Schools (Special Ed. Self Contained Classrooms). Reports to Supervising Teacher, Principal or designee. Responsibilities include working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, providing extra assistance to students with special needs (including non-English-speaking students or those with physical/mental disabilities), assisting the teacher in preparing instructional materials, supervising students in classrooms, halls, and during field trips, and performing non-instructional duties such as snack time and toileting. May assist with bulletin boards and decorations, support IEP goals, and participate in staff meetings and committees. Requires ability to relate to students and adults positively, follow written and verbal instructions, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate basic English and mathematics skills as well as basic technology knowledge. Requires meeting the stated qualification criteria and passing required paraprofessional assessments; physical requirements include lifting up to 60 pounds and two-person lifts for heavier students. Approved May 28, 2019; locations include Franklin, Georgia. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers and support staff to assist in an integrated setting and to support instructional activities planned by the teacher.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- pass score on paraprofessional assessments
- Two or more years of college
- passing score on one of the paraprofessional assessments within the first calendar year of employment
- Possess Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate
- Physically able to perform assigned duties
- Acceptable criminal background check
