Job Summary
This role assists in educational settings by working with the class, small groups or individual students to help them take full advantage of the instruction program. Duties include coordinating with classroom teachers, presenting subject matter under teacher guidance, assisting students individually or in small groups, supervising students in various settings, serving as a resource to substitute teachers, distributing materials, enforcing policies, completing required reports, teaching socially acceptable behavior, and supporting students with multiple physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. The paraprofessional may work with/handle resistive students, use adaptive equipment, assist with self-care, hygiene and feeding as necessary, and perform other teacher aide duties to maintain a professional and positive classroom environment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution; passed the ETS ParaPro assessment; or passed the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments
- Successful completion of sixty(60) semester hours of college or university coursework; or Hold an Associate’s (or higher) college degree; or pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment Test or the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment Test along with a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Professional Educator License OR Substitute License from ROE OR Paraprofessional License through the Illinois State Board of Education
- Good oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, administration and the public
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
- Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment and assisting students with self-care and learning activities
