Job Summary
Follow specific instructional strategies and plans to support student learning and independence across general education classes, community-based activities, and work experience sites. Monitor and evaluate student tasks during on-the-job training while assisting learners in mastering essential job skills. Provide individual or small group activities as prescribed by supervising teachers and help monitor Individual Education Plan delivery to accomplish program goals. Participate in assessment data collection, staff development, and regular conferences with professionals regarding learner outcomes and needs. Maintain confidentiality, practice effective communication, and support administrative supervisors with paperwork to focus on central educational problems.
Required Qualifications
- Hold proof of meeting state requirements for service as a State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional
- Highly qualified: 60+ college credit hours or an ISBE teacher's aide certification
- Valid Illinois driver's license
- Possess the ability to speak clearly and be understood by others
- Possess the ability to write legibly
- Possess the ability and have received the training to effectively operate a computer, using a PC platform, at a level which would allow a candidate to pass a test administered for this position
- Possess the ability to demonstrate effective telephone skills and the ability to operate a modern phone system
- Demonstrate the ability to calmly address individuals using the services offered by the position
- Possess an acceptable attendance history in prior positions and demonstrate the ability to meet the daily attendance requirements of the designated position
- Possess a successful work history, supported by references, in a work setting similar to the position for which the candidate is applying
- Demonstrate the ability to practice confidentiality with sensitive information
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to assist in establishing a positive climate in the work environment
Desired Qualifications
- Job coach experience and/or training preferred
- Experience in a high school setting preferred
