Job Summary
Lake Paraprofessionals provide assistance to a variety of students who require support with daily activities to maximize potential. The paraprofessional aide will assist the classroom teacher, work with special education students individually and in small groups, help students with tasks and reading, assist with field trips, monitor cafeteria/playground/classroom safety, and support students with IEPs/ETRs. The role requires maintaining calm demeanor, effective communication, collaboration with staff, confidentiality, and adaptability to changing environments. Requires Paraprofessional Permit and a High School diploma; prior aide experience and experience with students with behavioral or learning differences are preferred. Part-time schedule (4.59 hours per day) at Lake Elementary School, Hartville, OH.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Paraprofessional certification (Educational Aide Permit)
- Paraprofessional Permit/Certification required
- Less than one year related experience
- Experience assisting students with learning in public school settings
- Previous aide experience preferred
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under stress
- Experience with students with varying levels of disability and behavior disorders preferred
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly both orally and in writing
- Effective active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to stand, walk and move in outdoor conditions
- Ability to work with students with different needs (IEP/ETR)
- Team collaboration and positive references
- Demonstrates professionalism and confidentiality
- Strong work attendance history
- Computer skills and keyboarding skills
- Ability to supervise students in cafeteria, playground, halls
- Ability to follow classroom teacher directions
- Ability to assist with field trips
- Knowledge of PBIS/CPI methods
- Ability to support regular classwork and reading/math activities
- Safety and reporting responsibilities
- Assist with meals and supervision of students
