Job Summary

Provide direct support to students in regular classrooms by assisting with supervision, care, and instruction while monitoring behavior during non-classroom times. Implement daily schedules and behavior plans, guide classroom activities, and facilitate learning concepts such as reading, writing, and computer programs. Maintain instructional materials, perform clerical duties, and oversee classroom management including tests and homework. Communicate with staff and parents to assist in data collection and progress evaluation. Respond to emergency situations, report incidents, and attend required training for first aid and safety procedures. Watch over students in various school environments to ensure a safe learning atmosphere.

Required Qualifications

  • 60 College Credit Hours
  • Passing Score on ParaPro Assessment
  • Complete the 20 hour Substitute Certificate Course
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Family Care Safety Registry clearance
  • Adhering to safety practices
  • Operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Handling conflicts that arise from students
  • Basic math knowledge including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
  • Reading a variety of manuals
  • Writing documents following prescribed formats
  • Presenting information to others
  • Understanding complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of age appropriate student activities
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of stages of child development/behavior
  • Ability to schedule activities and/or meetings
  • Ability to gather and/or collate data
