Paraprofessional 1 supports instructional programs by assisting the Lead Teacher with special needs students in general or self-contained classrooms. Responsibilities include adapting activities, administering tests, assisting medically fragile students with personal hygiene, implementing IEP-based behavioral plans, following lesson plans, maintaining instructional materials, supervising students in varied settings, delivering individualized and group instruction, and communicating with staff and families. Requires collaboration with educators and adherence to educational objectives; 186 days employment; hourly, non-exempt status. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and completion of 48 college hours or an associate’s degree, or passing a state-approved assessment (Workkeys, ParaPro, or Para Educator). Knowledge of IEPs, behavior management, and ability to support diverse learners are essential.
