Job Summary
Assist and supervise students with significant behavioral, academic, and personal health care needs, including feeding, toileting, and physical mobility up to 30 pounds. Provide one-on-one instruction to support IEP goals in Diagnostic Kindergarten, Academic Support, and Behavior Support classes while collecting data for Medicaid documentation. Administer assessments, operate physical education equipment, and manage playground activities under teacher direction. Report incidents and maintain confidentiality in compliance with state laws. This role supports the VIP program at West High School within the Salt Lake City School District. Applicants must hold or obtain CPR & First Aid certification within two months of hire and pass a criminal background check. Starting wage is $20.00 hourly for a 0.7375 FTE position.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
- Complete Safety Care Training
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English
- proficiency in grammar and punctuation
- Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copy, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
- fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a K-12 special education or public employment environment
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
