Job Summary

Assist and supervise students in general education classes and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals under the direction of a Special Education teacher. Provide one-on-one support for daily living skills, including feeding and toileting, while administering first aid and CPR when necessary. Collect data on student behaviors and academics to support Medicaid documentation and perform record-keeping functions. Manage classroom interventions, playground supervision, and assist with student transportation on and off the bus. Report incidents to maintain student safety and adhere to district policies. Work under limited supervision with frequent interruptions, maintaining confidentiality and collaborating with teachers and administrators.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  • completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
  • obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
  • satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
  • Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
  • Complete Safety Care Training
  • Attend Annual Health Services Training
  • Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English
  • proficiency in grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copy, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
  • fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in a K-12 special education or public employment environment
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
