Job Summary
Assist and supervise students in general education classes and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEP) goals under a Special Education teacher's direction. Provide one-on-one support for medically fragile students with severe disabilities, including feeding, toileting, and physical care tasks. Collect data on student behaviors and academics to support Medicaid documentation and perform record-keeping functions. Administer assessments, supervise playground activities, and help students safely board and exit buses. Report incidents and administer first aid or CPR as necessary. Maintain regular attendance and communicate effectively with diverse individuals while adhering to district policies and state laws.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
- Complete Safety Care Training
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English
- proficiency in grammar and punctuation
- Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copy, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
- fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a K-12 special education or public employment environment
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
