Job Summary
Assist and supervise students in general education classes, implementing IEPs and behavior plans under a Special Education teacher's direction. Provide one-on-one support for medically fragile students, including feeding, toileting, and physical care up to 30 pounds. Collect data on student behaviors and academics to support Medicaid documentation, while administering assessments and operating physical education equipment. Report incidents to maintain safety and adhere to district policies. Work 29.5 hours per week at $20.00 hourly, reporting to a Principal or Administrative Designee. This role supports the Salt Lake City School District's special education students in Diagnostic Kindergarten through 1st Grade and beyond.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
- completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours)
- obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution
- satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher
- Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
- Complete Safety Care Training
- Attend Annual Health Services Training
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English
- proficiency in grammar and punctuation
- Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copy, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
- fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a K-12 special education or public employment environment
- Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
