Job Summary
Deliver pre-hospital ALS care for infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatric patients, directing patient care and correlating emergency medical transport. Operate an ambulance safely in all weather conditions, including rain, sleet, and snow, while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations. Maintain equipment readiness, complete patient care reports documenting initial contact through hospital delivery, and participate in performance improvement activities. Provide age-specific treatment using standard protocols, assist with patient transfers up to 100 lbs, and interact courteously with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers. Ensure all company-wide educational initiatives are current and report any equipment needing repair.
Required Qualifications
- Current TN Paramedic License from an accredited school
- Proficiency in pre-hospital care
- Oral communication skills
- License to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Tennessee
- CPR Healthcare Provider certification through an approved institution
- Valid Class D TN driver's license with an F endorsement
- ACLS Certification
- PALS or PEPP ALS Certification
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
- Ability to push/pull up to 100 lbs frequently
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to bend, lean, and stoop without hindrance
- Fine motor skills
- Normal range of hearing
- Ability to work in all outdoor conditions and weather
- Ability to safely drive an ambulance in all weather conditions and over most all terrain
- Ability to maintain composure while dealing with confused, irrational, agitated, and/or uncooperative patients
- Ability to work around frequent distractions on scene
- Willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions (rain, sleet, snow, storms)
- Ability to follow proper body mechanics to guard against injury
- Ability to identify all patients using at least two identifiers verbally (name and DOB)
- Ability to discuss treatment and provide education to patient/family or significant other when necessary
- Ability to transfer a patient to another facility
- Ability to verbally interact with patients of all ages
- Demonstrated competency and knowledge of age appropriate equipment
- Appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect to patient and ability to report them according to protocol
- Ability to identify and assess need for additional safety/support resources on scene
- Ability to accurately assess patient's needs
- Ability to accurately develop a plan of care on scene and continue throughout transport
- Knowledge of human growth and development
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to operate an ambulance in a safe manner
- Ability to participate in performance improvement activities
- Ability to utilize authorized emergency medical service standard of care protocols
- Ability to ensure all company-wide educational initiatives are current
- Ability to ensure every patient contact is directly reflected on a Patient Care Report
- Ability to provide courteous customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians, and any other person
- Ability to respect cultural and religious practices of patients from all backgrounds
- Ability to follow HIPAA regulations
- Ability to be punctual and dependable for assigned shifts
- Ability to follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures
- Ability to dress within dress code requirements of the department
- Ability to interact with physicians, guests, staff, and patients pleasantly, cooperatively, and effectively
- Ability to attend all educational opportunities
- Ability to complete Department Orientation Initial Competency within 7 days of hire date
- Ability to complete Department Initial Skills Competency within 90 days of hire date
- Ability to attend facility new hire orientation as scheduled by HR
- Ability to demonstrate cooperation, flexibility, and resourcefulness when dealing with patients, visitors, physicians, and other healthcare providers
- Ability to demonstrate an interest in a patient centered approach to total pre-hospital care
- Ability to deliver care based on age appropriate needs for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adults, and geriatric patients
- Ability to provide pre-hospital ALS care of patients which are in need of care as a result of accident or illness
- Ability to provide overall direction of that patient care in the pre-hospital setting
- Ability to assist with planning, supervising and evaluating the pre-hospital care of patients
- Ability to correlate emergency medical care and transportation
- Ability to work for scheduled shifts regardless of environmental weather and road conditions
- Ability to work around the clock coverage including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
