Job Summary
Perform emergency vehicle and patient care functions in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and regulations. Participate in basic and advanced life support procedures during emergency medical response and transport. Examine patients, report medical conditions to emergency department personnel, and prepare detailed medical reports and invoices. Maintain medic units by ensuring they are stocked, clean, and in good running order, while performing routine maintenance checks and reporting equipment malfunctions. Clean vehicles and patient care compartments, and attend required training sessions to maintain certification. Work full-time shifts with a sign-on bonus, earning between $26.75 and $38.41 per hour depending on experience or Critical Care licensure.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and a good driving record
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must possess current Paramedic license issued by the state of Michigan
- Must pass local medical control authorization requirements
- Must possess current BLS CPR card
- Must obtain a trauma certification, such as PHTLS
- Must obtain a pediatric certification, such as EPC, PALS, or PEPP
- Must be certified and current ACLS
- Must be interviewed by Life EMS designee
- Must pass all Life EMS pre-employment requirements as outlined on the Conditional Offer of Employment
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess current BLS CPR card
- Must obtain a trauma certification, such as PHTLS
- Must obtain a pediatric certification, such as EPC, PALS, or PEPP
- Must be certified and current ACLS
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs
- Must be able to push and pull wheelchairs while ascending or descending stairs with a 130 pound patient
- Must be able to lift, push and pull a stretcher to load and unload a 150 pound patient (with assistance of one other Paramedic)
- Must be able to lift and transfer loads up to 150 pound (with assistance of one other Paramedic)
- Must be able to climb a ladder and crawl
- Must be able to lift one end of a stretcher weighing 105 lbs from chest to overhead
- Must be able to wear a particulate respirator
- Must have facial hair only as a mustache to the corners of the mouth
- Must be available for days, nights, weekends, or holidays
- Must be able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to climb stairs
- Must be able to balance
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Must be able to talk or hear
- Must have close vision
- Must have distance vision
- Must have color vision
- Must have peripheral vision
- Must have depth perception
- Must be able to adjust focus
- Must be able to sit and drive using frequent wrist motions and forward reaches
- Must have exceptional knowledge of emergency care procedures
- Must have exceptional knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology
- Must have exceptional knowledge of city streets and traffic regulations
- Must demonstrate the ability to think and act quickly in stressful situations
- Must have considerable skill in the application of emergency care procedures and equipment
- Must be able to prepare detailed written reports
- Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with fellow crew members, police, fire, and the general public
