Job Summary

Conduct primary patient care for infants through the elderly, including after-hours urgent and emergent needs. Quickly identify life-threatening situations, administer therapeutic measures as ordered, and operate specialized medical equipment. Perform triage for non-routine appointments, assess patients per protocol, and coordinate care with nursing teams and other professional disciplines. Maintain a safe, aseptic environment, manage dispensary duties including medication verification and patient education, and participate in staff meetings and community outreach. Demonstrate independent decision-making, problem-solving, and initiative during variable shifts, including day, evening, and rotating on-call hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Paramedic license from the State of Alaska
  • Previous experience in Critical Access Hospital or ER
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS required within 1 year of hire
  • Willing to relocate to Dutch Harbor Unalaska, Alaska
  • Relocation is required
  • Must be able to identify life-threatening situations quickly
  • Must be organized
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Must have manual dexterity of hands/ fingers
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push or pull up to 200lbs (with assistance)
  • Must be able to subject to prolonged standing or walking
  • Must be able to maintain a professional personal appearance
  • Must abide by the dress code at all times
  • Must treat all customers (patients and guests) with respect
  • Must treat colleagues (employees, practitioners, volunteers) as professionals

  • Must be able to assess, triage and care for urgent care as well as primary care patients
  • Must be skilled in operating and monitoring a variety of specialized medical equipment
  • Must be able to obtain IV/IO access
  • Must be skilled in interpersonal communication with all stakeholders
  • Must be able to develop or coordinate a multi-disciplinary outpatient care plan
  • Must be able to recognize adverse signs and react appropriately
  • Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies with providers and support staff while on-call
  • State of Alaska Paramedic License - Required
  • BLS Certification- Required
  • ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS Certification- Required
  • Paramedic: 1 year- Required
  • Hearing: within normal limits with or without use of corrective devices
  • Visions: adequate to read 12-point font type with or without corrective lenses

Desired Qualifications

  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS required within 1 year of hire
  • Previous experience in Critical Access Hospital or ER preferred
  • Other healthcare education is a plus
  • Emergency Room or EMS: 1 year - Preferred
  • Background in Emergency or Critical Care, or other healthcare experience is a plus
