Job Summary
Paramedic III (Ground and Flight) with Duke Life Flight provides direct patient care across ALS/BLS transports, performing advanced life support procedures (including intubation, RSI, needle decompression, central line, intraosseous access) and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include planning and executing patient care during transport, maintaining equipment, ensuring safe transport operations, planning for special equipment needs, providing family information, and supporting staffing across bases. The role supports educational outreach, performance improvement, research participation, and must maintain certifications (ACLS, PALS, ITLS/PHTLS, NRP) and meet NC EMS guidelines. Eligible Paramedics may receive a $7500 commitment bonus and relocation assistance; a High School Diploma and NC Paramedic Certification are required, with continued professional development and credentialing as outlined.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- North Carolina Paramedic Certification
- Minimum of three years ALS experience as a Paramedic in an emergency setting (4 years preferred)
- FP-C within 2 years of hire; FP-C required on if previous Critical Care Transport experience
- NC Emergency Vehicle Driver certification or comparable preferred (EVOC or other)
- ACLS, PALS, ITLS (or PHTLS) and BLS required upon hire (NRP within 6 months)
- Current Class C driver's license with three-year driving history clean
- Validation of physical fitness testing post-offer
- PHTLS certification within 1 year of hire; TPATC within 24 months; specialty certification (FP-C/CCEMTP) within 2 years if new to SCT transport
- Current NC Paramedic Certification
- Operating knowledge of Duke Life Flight ambulances
- Ability to obtain state licensure/credentialing as needed
- Vision 20/40 corrected
