Job Summary
Provide immediate, advanced medical attention to incarcerated individuals by evaluating medical needs, prioritizing care by severity, and responding to emergencies with rapid assessments and treatments. Administer medications, perform intubation, insert IV lines, and deliver babies while working closely with security staff and other medical professionals. Complete paperwork and documentation for individual patient or staff care, then communicate relevant information to other medical professionals, security staff, and external emergency services. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to correctional healthcare policies while passing a criminal background check and drug screening.
Required Qualifications
- Paramedics are required to complete training for basic and advanced EMTs and additional studies from an accredited college or university
- Completion of National Paramedic Certification (NPC) exam and the required state licensing counterparts
- Hold: AHA BLS CPR Card
- Has extensive knowledge of physiology, cardiology, medical procedures, and medication
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
- Must be available for night shift
