Job Summary
Determine donor eligibility through informed consent, medical history interviews, and physical examinations while managing adverse events and reviewing laboratory results. Evaluate donor reactions per SOPs and coordinate transport to emergency facilities for medical emergencies. Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs, manage employee incidents, and act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized. Refer unacceptable findings and technical issues to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs. This Medical Support Specialist role supports plasma center operations at a BioLife Plasma Services facility in Waterloo, IA, where collected plasma becomes life-changing medicines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting
