Job Summary
Administer advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in a pre-hospital setting, assessing illness or injury to prioritize medical procedures. Restore heart rhythm, monitor cardiac patients, and initiate intravenous fluids for medication or fluid replacement. Perform endotracheal intubation, administer injections, and record vital signs at the emergency scene. Drive the ambulance, coordinate with volunteer responders, and communicate with hospital personnel via radio or telephone. Maintain current knowledge of treatment protocols, prepare reports, restock supplies, and perform vehicle maintenance. Requires an Alabama EMSP Paramedic license, current driver's license, and EVOC training.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- required undergraduate National Registered Paramedic (NRP) certificate
- State of Alabama EMSP License as Paramedic
- Valid and current driver's license
- Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) training
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to legibly write routine reports and correspondence
