Job Summary
Draft, serve, and respond to discovery and subpoenas; track deadlines, maintain logs, and prepare record and deposition subpoenas with HIPAA compliance. Intake, organize, and summarize medical records to create chronologies, identifying gaps such as prior injuries and pre-existing conditions. Identify providers, coordinate IMEs and experts, and prepare expert notebooks. Conduct legal and factual research, draft pleadings, and prepare trial materials. Manage calendars, schedule depositions and hearings, and coordinate with courts, clients, and opposing counsel. E-file in state and federal courts and prepare exhibit binders. Requires 3+ years of personal injury defense experience and proficiency with LexisNexis or Westlaw.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of paralegal experience in personal injury defense, working in a Law Firm or similar legal environment
- Proven proficiency in defense First-Party Property discovery and subpoena practice
- Expertise reviewing medical records, preparing chronologies, and mapping providers; ability to spot gaps and escalation issues
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail across multiple matters
- Professional written and verbal communication; effective stakeholder management
- Technical proficiency with LexisNexis or Westlaw and at least one records platform (e.g., Magna Record, Ontellus, or comparable); comfort with case/document management systems and standard office software
- Resourceful, proactive, and able to work independently within established procedures
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience
