Job Summary
Draft pleadings, discovery documents, and memoranda from dictation while managing attorney calendars, client meetings, and mediations. Open and close client files, run conflict checks, and coordinate matters in our document management system. Support trial preparation by identifying discovery documents, assisting with witness preparation, and building trial notebooks. Serve as the first point of contact for clients and visitors, protecting attorney-client confidentiality. Process expense reports, proof billing sheets, and review edited bills to keep billing on track. Collaborate with the FAST team and provide reception and admin coverage as needed. This role requires 3+ years of family law experience, a paralegal certification, and 70 wpm transcription speed. Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of family law experience
- 2+ years of complex litigation experience
- judgment to produce accurate legal documents with minimal supervision
- Associate's degree or certificate in paralegal studies
- NALA or NC Paralegal Certification
- Notary commission
- ability to transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and reports from rough draft or dictation at 70 wpm
- Sharp organizational skills
- ability to juggle competing priorities and hit deadlines without missing a beat
- Strong written and verbal communication
- courtesy and tact to work effectively across a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff
- Solid proofreading and editing instincts
- comfort with basic calculations on forms and documents
- Flexibility for the occasional stretch beyond 40 hours or irregular hours when a case demands it
