Job Summary
Support Markel's insurance legal team by preparing regulatory filings, conducting legal research, and managing document preparation for corporate and transactional matters. Track legislative developments, monitor third-party vendor NDAs, and coordinate signatures and notarizations for legal documents. Maintain electronic filing systems, manage regulatory calendars, and serve as a liaison between the Legal Department and internal partners including Underwriting, Finance, and Compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree in paralegal studies, certification from an ABA-approved paralegal program, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- At least five years of in-house paralegal experience or other relevant legal, regulatory, or compliance experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammar, proofreading, and organizational abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships across departments and levels of the organization
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint
- US Work Authorization
- Hybrid position located at Markel's offices in Rosemont, Illinois or Omaha, Nebraska
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with document management systems, legal operations tools, or workflow management systems
- Notary Public designation
- Prior insurance, regulatory, compliance, or financial services experience
